2026 Chernisky Classic

The 12th Annual Chernisky Classic 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run is a family-friendly event that includes an out-and-back 5K and 10K course on the nationally recognized Ghost Town Trail, recently named the 2020 DCNR Trail of the Year, as well as a free Firecracker Race for kids 8 and under. The event always takes place the Saturday after the fourth of July, making this year's date July 11th. Firetrucks and firefighters will be at the event to greet and interact with kids. 100% of proceeds benefit the Training Facility of the Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association. The Chernisky Classic welcomes all runners and walkers to an exciting, and fun filled day. Cold water will be available at the start/finish line and on the trail. The 5K and 10K course will be clearly marked for you to complete your distance.

Course

Both the 5K and 10K out-and-back courses take place on the Ghost Town Trail, a nationally recognized rail-trail in Cambria County that has been named the 2020 Trail of the Year. 5K participants will pass by a water station at the turnaround point; 10K participants will pass by water station twice. Restrooms are located at the Start/Finish Line at the Young People's Community Center (300 Prave St., Ebensburg, PA 15931).

Schedule

Race Day Saturday, July 11th 6:45 am - 9:00 am at the Young People's Community Center (YPCC) Same day packet pick-up and race day registration. *BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Participants wishing to start early may do so during this time, but they will not be officially timed or eligible for prizes. (rolling start) 9:05 am - Start for competitive runners, or participants who wish to be timed and eligible for prizes, of the 5k and 10k 10:20 am - Firecracker Race FREE for children up to 8 years of age Young People's Community Center (YPCC) 300 Prave Street Ebensburg, PA 15931

Registration Fees

*Includes commemorative race t-shirt or tank top (women's sizes only). Please make appropriate choice during checkout. The first 400 finishers receive a voucher to a Johnstown Tomahawks game for the 2026-2027 season. Prizes will be given to the top 5 male/female finishers of the 5k and 10k running events. Online Registration* December 11 through January 31 - $16.00 February 1 through May 31 - $22.00 June 1 through July 10 - $28.00 Race Day Registration (shirt not guaranteed) $33.00 *Discount for groups of 10+ - $20 per participant (separate registration forms for each person placed into one envelope with check (paper registration only). *Discount for Firefighters who run/walk in turnout gear - $20 per participant (paper registration only). Paper registrations will not be available until June 2026. No refunds will be issued.

Timing & Results

All participants starting at the 9:05 am group start time will be officially timed by Randy Wilson, coach of Central Cambria Cross Country. Top 5 male/female finishers of the 5k and 10k running events will be awarded prizes.
