The 12th Annual Chernisky Classic 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run is a family-friendly event that includes an out-and-back 5K and 10K course on the nationally recognized Ghost Town Trail, recently named the 2020 DCNR Trail of the Year, as well as a free Firecracker Race for kids 8 and under. The event always takes place the Saturday after the fourth of July, making this year's date July 11th. Firetrucks and firefighters will be at the event to greet and interact with kids. 100% of proceeds benefit the Training Facility of the Cambria County Regional Firefighters Association. The Chernisky Classic welcomes all runners and walkers to an exciting, and fun filled day. Cold water will be available at the start/finish line and on the trail. The 5K and 10K course will be clearly marked for you to complete your distance.
Both the 5K and 10K out-and-back courses take place on the Ghost Town Trail, a nationally recognized rail-trail in Cambria County that has been named the 2020 Trail of the Year. 5K participants will pass by a water station at the turnaround point; 10K participants will pass by water station twice. Restrooms are located at the Start/Finish Line at the Young People's Community Center (300 Prave St., Ebensburg, PA 15931).

All participants starting at the 9:05 am group start time will be officially timed by Randy Wilson, coach of Central Cambria Cross Country. Top 5 male/female finishers of the 5k and 10k running events will be awarded prizes.

Ebensburg is a borough and the county seat of Cambria County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. It is located 25 miles (40 km) west of Altoona and surrounded by Cambria Township. It is situated in the Allegheny Mountains at about 2,140 feet (650 m) above sea level. Ebensburg is located in a rich bituminous coal region. In the past, sawmills, tanneries, wool mills, and a foundry operated there. The number of residents in 1900 was 1,574, and in 1910, 1,978. As of the 2020 census, Ebensburg had a population of 3,404. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area.
