The Blencathra Marathon invites experienced fell and trail runners to tackle its challenging 26.4-mile circular route, which traverses the rugged terrain of Cumbria’s Lake District. This race is more than just a run; it's an adventure through some of Britain's most breathtaking landscapes. Starting in Caldbeck, participants will ascend five Wainwright summits: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra itself, Mungrisdale Common, Knott, and High Pike. Each summit offers panoramic views that reward runners for their efforts with stunning vistas across the fells. The route is steeped in history and natural beauty, making it a true test of endurance against the elements. Organizers provide parking facilities within the village to make access easy for competitors. Along the way, there are two water checkpoints strategically placed along the course where participants can hydrate before tackling more challenging sections ahead. Once runners complete their journey around this circular route and return to Caldbeck, they will be greeted with hot drinks and snacks at the finish line. In addition to a memorable running experience, all entrants receive a commemorative medal and t-shirt upon completion of the race. The event also offers prizes for the top three male, female, and non-binary competitors in each category, adding an extra layer of excitement for those who excel on this challenging course. Registration opens at 7:15 am with check-in continuing until 8:45 am before the official start time of 9:00 am. The cut-off time is set at 9 pm to ensure all participants have ample opportunity to complete their journey safely and enjoyably. For those concerned about unforeseen circumstances that might prevent them from participating, XCover insurance can be purchased during registration to provide peace of mind should cancellations become necessary due to unexpected events. The race directors are known for their enthusiasm and support throughout the event, creating a welcoming atmosphere despite the challenging terrain. Join us at Blencathra Marathon for an unforgettable adventure in one of Britain's most beautiful regions. Join the ranks of runners who have braved this scenic yet demanding course, immersing yourself in nature while pushing your limits on some of England’s finest trails.
