Canton Juneteenth 5K Run/Walk

About the Event

The Canton Juneteenth 5K Run/Walk returns to Canton, Mississippi on June 20th, 2026. This event is part of a weekend-long celebration that commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Galveston, Texas, and celebrates freedom and community in the region.
Race morning finds participants gathering at Pine Grove Park, located just off Main Street near downtown Canton. The park is surrounded by lush greenery and historic buildings that lend an air of tradition to the atmosphere. Runners can expect a welcoming environment as they gear up for the race under the shade of old oak trees before setting out on their journey.
The 5K event has been running since its inception, fostering a sense of community among residents who have participated in growing numbers each year. The Pine Grove Association organizes this annual tradition to honor Juneteenth and promote health awareness through active lifestyles. This race not only celebrates the historical significance but also supports local initiatives aimed at reducing health disparities.
The course itself offers a 5K run, which is suitable for both seasoned runners and casual walkers alike. Participants will enjoy running along Pine Grove Park’s well-maintained trails, with minimal elevation changes to keep things manageable throughout the race. The route features several notable landmarks, including the historic Canton courthouse just before reaching the finish line.
On June 20th at approximately 7:00 AM, runners can expect a temperature range of between 21.7°C and 31.5°C with an average humidity level of 76.5%. The UV index is expected to be very high, so proper sun protection will be essential. Runners should also prepare for some light wind that could make the race feel slightly cooler.
