Cannock Chase Forest Off-Road Duathlons – 2026
Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Cannock Chase Forest, located just north of Birmingham, for an exhilarating day of off-road duathlon racing. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced athlete, this event offers two challenging courses that cater to all levels: the Sprint Duathlon and the Standard Duathlon.
The forest is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, featuring stunning scenery with its mix of dense woodland, open heathland, and rugged trails perfect for trail running and off-road cycling. The terrain here presents a unique challenge, offering varied elevations and diverse landscapes that will test your endurance and technical skills on both the run and cycle segments.
For those opting to take part in the Sprint Duathlon, you'll start with a 5km run through winding forest paths followed by an invigorating 19km bike ride across gravel trails. The race concludes with another 2.5km of running back into the finish line area. Those who choose the Standard Duathlon will tackle longer distances: a 10km run, a 34km cycle over varied terrain, and finally a concluding 5km run.
Transition areas are well-organized to ensure smooth changes between disciplines. All athletes must secure their bikes properly in designated spots that match their race numbers. A small bag or box is allowed inside the transition area for personal belongings, but all bike numbers must be clearly visible before entering the cycling segment and helmets need to be on display.
Start times are set at 8:00am for the Standard Duathlon followed by a ten-minute gap for the Sprint Duathlon starting promptly at 8:20am. Race timing is provided by Timing Up North, offering live chip-timing throughout both courses. This ensures accurate results which can be submitted towards British Triathlon Age Group Qualifiers.
Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will receive an event medal and a special gift from Wild Deer Merchandise to commemorate their achievement. Refreshments such as drinks and snacks are also provided for post-race recovery.
