On September 13th, Busselton invites athletes of all ages to participate in an exciting duathlon event starting at the Busselton Surf Life Saving Club. The day begins with two main categories: Short and Long. The Short category is designed for participants aged 12 years and older, featuring a challenging course that includes a run of 1.25 kilometers followed by a bike ride of 7 kilometers, concluding with another run of the same distance as the start. For those seeking more mileage, the Long event caters to individuals aged 13 and above, offering a longer run component at the beginning and end: each measuring 2.5 kilometers, sandwiching an extensive 14-kilometer bike ride in between. In addition to these categories for older athletes, there's also a special TRYstars program aimed at younger participants: - U7s: A fun introduction with a short run of 250 meters followed by a cycle of 1 kilometer and concluding with another brief sprint.
- Ages 7 - 9 years old: This group will tackle a slightly longer route, running for half a kilometer before cycling two kilometers and finishing up with the same distance as their initial run. - Ages 10 - 12 years old: The oldest of these groups faces an expanded challenge: starting with a 500-meter run, followed by a four-kilometer bike ride, and concluding with a final leg that's one kilometer long. Participants are encouraged to arrive at least twenty minutes before their scheduled start time. This allows ample opportunity for registration, setup of equipment, and pre-race briefings ensuring everyone is well-prepared. The event promises not only competitive racing but also an engaging atmosphere where participants can enjoy spot prizes courtesy of SolarCare B3. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just starting out, the duathlon offers something unique to every participant while fostering community spirit among competitors. For those curious about membership requirements, it's worth noting that all race entries come with one-day insurance coverage for racing activities, ensuring safety and peace of mind during the event. Existing members from other clubs can join Busselton as a second club without additional fees, allowing them to participate free at this event after applying discounts. All participants are reminded to bring their own bike, helmet, and running shoes on race day. With scenic routes and supportive crowds, it's an ideal setting for both seasoned racers and newcomers alike. The duathlon is a celebration of athletic spirit in the heart of Busselton, offering runners and cyclists alike a memorable experience that combines endurance with camaraderie.
