British and Irish Junior International Mountain Running Championship
About the Event
On September 12th, 2026, runners from Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Ulster converge at Donard Forest for an exhilarating day of competition. This unique race features staggered starts to ensure smooth passage through the course's critical sections, making it a strategic challenge. The event is divided into four races starting at 10:00 AM sharp. Team managers must inform Phil Hodge about their selected athletes to secure points in the JHI competition. Athletes who are not part of the teams but wish to participate can enter as individuals and compete for titles within the British and Irish Championships. The race route winds through Donard Forest, leading into Tollymore Forest before returning to Greenhill YMCA where participants will find team accommodations. Number collection takes place at the NIMRA Gazebo in the grounds of Greenhill YMCA; runners should park their cars at Donard carpark as parking is extremely limited near the venue. Participants are required to bring a waterproof coat with an attached hood, hat, gloves, and whistle for safety purposes. A waistbag or similar carry option is also essential during the race. Race directors reserve the right to demand additional leg cover based on weather conditions. Competitors born in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2007 are eligible for this event. Teams will consist of five athletes each (both male and female) from the U18 category (born between 2011-2009), while four athletes per gender represent the U20 division (born in 2008 or 2007). Detailed course maps are available online for both age categories, providing runners with a clear understanding of their route. Any adjustments to start and finish lines will be communicated via email at least one day before race commencement. First aid support is provided by Raymond Shannon and his team from First Aid Trainers NI, stationed not only at the starting and finishing areas but also along the course for added safety. This ensures that runners have comprehensive medical assistance throughout their journey through Donard Forest and Tollymore Forest. This event promises to be a memorable experience with stunning scenery and rigorous terrain, offering both camaraderie among teams and individual accolades in one of Northern Ireland's most picturesque settings.
