This vibrant and heartfelt event kicks off at 9AM rain or shine along a scenic trail that winds through the park's lush landscape. Participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity with costumes, tutus, and any other colorful attire they can think of. Whether you're dressing up as your favorite superhero, a mystical unicorn, or simply strutting in stripes, this run is all about celebrating life’s joys while raising awareness for an important cause. The Braden James Fund was established to honor the memory of Braden James, who lost his battle with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) at just 5.5 years old after a courageous 18-month fight against this devastating pediatric cancer. The fund supports children and families battling DIPG through three key initiatives: PLAY, ADVOCATE, and CURE. - PLAY: Interactive playroom walls have been funded for the pediatric waiting rooms at Sibley Memorial Hospital to provide comfort and distraction during stressful treatments.
- ADVOCATE: A coalition was formed that successfully passed the Give Kids a Chance Act, supporting combination therapies against DIPG and encouraging pharmaceutical companies to develop new treatments. - CURE: Critical research has been funded to understand tumor development through blood analysis, explore CBD as a potential treatment for DIPG, and investigate methods to reactivate the immune system against these tumors. Parking is available at South Bluemont Parking Area on a first-come, first-served basis. Please ensure that you park in designated areas only; avoid parking on grass or blocking bike trails and residential driveways.
