Blickling NT

Located just 1.5 miles northwest of Aylsham on Blickling Road, the picturesque Blickling Hall offers runners an engaging orienteering experience within its expansive grounds owned by the National Trust. Upon arrival, visitors should follow brown tourist signs to reach the overflow car park.
The event takes place in a diverse landscape featuring both wooded areas and open pastures, providing varied terrain that challenges participants while showcasing natural beauty. However, be aware of forestry work and dense undergrowth like bracken and bramble which may slow progress on certain sections. The course also includes tracks and paths well-suited for navigation.
Safety is paramount at Blickling Park NT; runners will encounter fenced enclosures marked as "uncrossable" on the map. Only designated crossing points should be used, ensuring participants stay safe while enjoying the event. Additionally, some courses pass through fields with sheep and cattle. Competitors are advised to avoid running directly through herds of livestock for their safety and that of the animals.
Dogs are welcome at the car park but must remain on a leash throughout the course due to the presence of farm animals. Participants should carry a whistle as an additional precautionary measure, ensuring they can signal for help if needed.
Registration is available from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM with starts scheduled between 10:15 AM and 12:15 PM. The event concludes at 2:00 PM when all courses close. Toilets and a National Trust Café are conveniently located in the main car park, providing essential amenities for participants.
This orienteering adventure offers a unique blend of physical challenge and scenic beauty within Blickling Hall's historic setting. For those interested in competitive opportunities, the East Anglian Junior Championships will be held under the rules of the East Anglian Schools Championship, with details available on their dedicated webpage.
Participants should note that parking is free for National Trust members who can scan their membership card at designated machines or use JustPark. Non-members must pay £5 by contactless card at the car park's pay and display stations or via JustPark. Registration takes place near the main entrance, with starts a short distance away following clearly marked routes.
