Birmingham Canal Canter

Discover the fascinating industrial heritage and vibrant urban greenways of England's second city at the Birmingham Canal Canter, a unique walking and running event set for Sunday, 2 August 2026. Organised by the LDWA's Heart of England group, this popular event offers three flat, accessible distances (18.5, 26.5, and 30 miles) that follow the city's extensive network of canals and rivers, passing iconic landmarks from Cadbury's Bournville and Gas Street Basin to Tolkien's inspirational Sarehole Mill. With staggered starts from Moseley Rugby Club, it's a perfect challenge for walkers and runners alike, featuring well-stocked checkpoints, a hot meal at the finish, and a celebration of the region's 30-year LDWA history with a special "Maxi Canter" route. All finishers receive a commemorative badge and certificate after a day exploring Birmingham's ever-changing landscape from tranquil waterways to modern developments. Entries open on 31 October 2025 for a wonderfully sociable and scenic urban adventure.
