Billingen Trail

Billingen Trail is a premier Scandinavian trail event scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, on the scenic Billingen mountain in Skövde, Sweden. Organized by IFK Skövde FIK, the race predominantly follows the well-known Billingeleden trail, offering runners a diverse mix of deciduous forests, mountain ravines, meadows, and panoramic views. The event features three distinct distances tailored to different experience levels, with the ultra-distance 47 km course circumnavigating the entire northern part of the mountain. All races conclude at the Billingens Fritidsområde stadium, which serves as the central hub for the weekend's festivities.

Skövde is a historic city in Västra Götaland County, situated between Sweden's two largest lakes, Vänern and Vättern. The city has a population of approximately 57,000 residents. The demographic profile of Skövde is roughly 81% Swedish-born, with the remaining 19% representing a diverse international community drawn by the local university and tech sectors. The median annual household income in the region is approximately 360,000 SEK. Geographically, Mount Billingen is a large mesa-like plateau rising 300 meters above the surrounding plains, composed primarily of limestone and diabase. In late April, the local climate is cool and refreshing; average daytime temperatures reach 12°C (54°F), while the trails can still be damp from spring thaw. The terrain varies from technical, root-filled forest paths to roughly 6 km of paved road sections on the long course.

The race logistics are well-integrated, with a shuttle bus provided for 21 km participants to take them from the stadium to their remote start in Björnasäter. Aid stations are strategically placed along the routes, offering water and Umara sports drink, though runners are strongly encouraged to carry their own hydration packs. For the 47 km ultra-distance, a strict cutoff requires runners to reach the 22 km mark within 3.5 hours to continue. Registration fees increase as race day approaches, ranging from 250 SEK for the short course to 650 SEK for the ultra-marathon. All finishers receive a commemorative medal at the stadium, where showers and changing facilities are available at the Billingecentrat hub. Participants are reminded that littering on the pristine Billingen trails is strictly prohibited.
