Big Tesuque Trail Run

About the Event

The Big Tesuque Trail Run returns to Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 10th, marking its 39th year as a beloved local event for runners of all skill levels. Starting at Aspen Vista along Hyde Park Road in the heart of Santa Fe, participants will embark on a challenging route that ascends six miles and 2000 feet to the summit of Tesuque Peak within the Santa Fe National Forest before descending back to the start line, completing a full round-trip distance of 12 miles. The Big T is an annual tradition celebrated by runners who are drawn to its rigorous course through scenic mountain terrain.
On race morning, participants will face cool temperatures ranging from around 7.6°C at dawn to a high near 18.7°C in the afternoon. With typical winds averaging about 14 km/h and humidity levels of approximately 42%, runners should expect clear skies with minimal precipitation risk—only an average rainfall of 1.1mm is expected throughout the day, making for ideal trail conditions that are firm yet slightly soft underfoot. The UV index will be moderate at a level four, suggesting that sun protection might be necessary during peak daylight hours.
The Big Tesuque Trail Run offers two primary distance options: an early start option and the main 12 Miler event which covers approximately 19 kilometers over rugged mountain trails. Both events come with a registration fee of $50.00, providing participants with access to this historic race that supports important local causes.
To register for the Big Tesuque Trail Run, visit https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=139255 where you can secure your spot in either the early start or main 12 Miler events. Registration is open until late September; however, participants are advised to sign up as soon as possible due to limited availability and high demand for these distances.
Bib pickup will take place on race day from 6:00 AM onwards at Aspen Vista along NM-475 in Santa Fe. Participants must arrive with their confirmation number or a printed copy of their registration receipt; no additional items are required for bib collection. The start line is accessible to all runners, though the event's challenging course demands participants be prepared both physically and mentally for its steep climbs and extended distance.
The Big Tesuque Trail Run concludes at Aspen Vista on October 10th in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This race stands out as a significant community-driven initiative supporting Wings of America—an organization dedicated to fostering running programs among Native American youth across northern New Mexico. By participating in the "Big T," runners contribute directly to empowering young athletes through sport and mentorship.

About Santa Fe

Scenic view of

Santa Fe, founded in 1607, is the capital of the state of New Mexico and its principal tourist destination, renowned for its confluence of scenic beauty, long history, cultural diversity, and extraordinary concentration of arts, music and fine dining. With an elevation of 7,000 ft (2,100 m), it is not only the United States' oldest state capital but its highest, sitting at the foot of the spectacular Sangre de Cristo Mountains. And with a population of about 85,000 (2019), it's not the most populous capital, but that's part of its charm. This is not a capital that bustles with politicians but one that bustles with tourists, who flood the narrow streets around the town's plaza in the summer months to take in the beautiful adobe architecture, the unique cultural heritage, and the spectacular art that make Santa Fe one of the world's top travel destinations.
