Battle of the Beatton 2026

The Battle of the Beatton is set to take place on October 4, 2026, offering runners two exciting trail race options within Beatton Park: a 5-kilometer route and a longer 12-kilometer course. The shorter distance provides an accessible challenge for all ages, while the extended option includes a unique handicap system designed to create an equitable competition among participants.
For the 12K event, runners start at staggered intervals based on age and gender, with older competitors having an earlier head start compared to younger athletes who have faster times. This innovative approach aims to ensure that everyone has a fair chance of winning, regardless of their natural pace or physical capabilities. The race is not only about crossing the finish line first but also celebrating diversity in athletic ability.
Awards will be presented to top individual performers and families alike. Families can compete for special recognition based on the lowest placing among any three family members who complete the course. This encourages intergenerational participation and teamwork, making it a joyous event for all involved.
Beyond just racing, this community-driven initiative raises funds for the cross-country programs at Bert Bowes Middle School and North Peace Secondary School. These programs are crucial in nurturing student-athletes by fostering essential values such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, and healthy living habits. Your participation helps ensure that young athletes have access to necessary equipment, training opportunities, and the chance to compete on regional and provincial levels.
Race day activities include a registration period from 8:30 am to 9:45 am for early check-in or last-minute sign-ups at $50 per runner until 9:15 am. The race kicks off promptly at 10:00 am, followed by a relaxing BBQ and hot chocolate session at noon (donations appreciated). Online registration ends on October 2nd with standard rates of $40 for individual runners or family packs priced at $140 for four participants.
Race day registrations are also available but costlier at $50. Participants will be organized into groups according to the updated start sheet designed specifically for this year's event, ensuring a more balanced and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
