The Balsam Lake Freedom Fest 5K Run/Walk returns to the quaint town of Balsam Lake in Wisconsin on July 4th, offering participants a scenic route through the heart of this charming community. Nestled along the southern shore of Balsam Lake Village Hall, the race celebrates its annual run/walk tradition by bringing together runners and walkers from all over for an event that honors local unity and support.
On race day, as dawn breaks with the sun casting long shadows across the greenery surrounding Balsam Lake, the air feels crisp yet welcoming. The atmosphere is one of community spirit and camaraderie, where families gather early to cheer on participants or lace up their shoes themselves for a morning jog around familiar streets. As you make your way through town, the vibrant energy of the day begins to take shape: children playing in nearby parks, locals setting out picnic baskets along the lakefront paths, and vendors readying stalls with homemade treats.
This year marks another installment of what has become an integral part of Balsam Lake’s summer festivities. Since its inception, thousands have joined this run/walk, raising funds for essential community projects like scholarships, support for the local fire department, enhancements to the Senior Citizens Center, and holiday celebrations that bring joy to many families in need. Each participant receives a commemorative race shirt upon registration, available in adult sizes from small to 2X large. A highlight of this year’s event is the introduction of an overall winner category specifically designed for strollers, ensuring everyone feels welcome on the course.
The Balsam Lake Freedom Fest 5K Run/Walk unfolds along a well-maintained route that winds through scenic trails and around picturesque views of the lake. Starting and finishing at the south side of the Village Hall, runners will encounter gentle terrain with minimal elevation changes, making it an accessible option for both seasoned athletes and those just starting out. Aid stations are strategically placed throughout to provide water refills, ensuring participants remain hydrated during their run.
