About the Event

Make history in the water at the Bicentenary Swim on January 25, 2026, a special one-off open water event celebrating Western Australia's 200th anniversary at Albany's picturesque Middleton Beach. This community-focused swim invites participants of all ages and abilities to choose from 400m, 1.5km, or 3km distances, marking a milestone moment that honors Albany's coastal heritage and its pivotal role in the state's story. With early bird pricing available until January 18th, this is more than a race—it's a chance to connect, reflect, and be part of a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.

Registration opens at 6:45 AM, followed by a briefing at 7:15 AM and race start at 7:30 AM, welcoming junior (up to 14) and senior (15+) categories. Please note age minimums: 8 years for the short course and 11 years for long course distances, with parental consent required for all under-18 swimmers. Dive into history with the support of City of Albany and dedicated local volunteers for a truly memorable WA bicentenary experience.

About Middleton Beach

Middleton Beach is a coastal suburb of Albany, Western Australia, located within the City of Albany approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) east of the city centre. The traditional owners, the Noongar peoples, know the place as Binalup meaning the place of first light since the sun rises over the waters in the morning. The main road between the city and the locality is via Middleton Road. It is home to a caravan park and numerous holiday units which provide accommodation for visitors to the Albany region.
