About the Event

The Urashima Marathon is built around a relaxed pace rather than fast times. Its slogan invites runners to take it slowly and easily around Mitoyo.
The course draws on the Urashima legend long associated with Takuma-cho in Mitoyo City. Place names there, including Mt. Shiunde and the spots said to be where the treasure box was opened and where Urashima Taro was born, still carry that story. The event uses this heritage to promote tourism and exchange among residents, support local sport and encourage better health.
Runners follow the coast and take in views of the Seto Inland Sea in late autumn. Distances are 1.5 km, 10 km and a half marathon.
