50th Annual Martin Luther King Center Jamestown Classic
About the Event
The Newport Classic Triathlon, held annually since 1975, is set for Sunday, October 12, 2025. This event stands as the premier triathlon race of its kind, attracting both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike to test their mettle in a challenging yet rewarding competition. Participants will start at Fort Getty in Jamestown, Rhode Island, where they'll begin with an invigorating swim across Middletown Harbor. The 1500-meter open water swim offers swimmers stunning views of the Newport Bridge and surrounding coastline before transitioning to their bikes for the next leg. Cyclists will enjoy a scenic 40-kilometer ride through picturesque Conanicut Island, where they can take in breathtaking vistas of Narragansett Bay. The final stretch sees athletes tackle a hilly but manageable 10-kilometer run back towards Fort Getty. The race course is designed to push participants both physically and mentally while providing an unforgettable experience amidst the natural beauty of Newport’s coastal landscape. Registration for all events opens online via TriReg.com from now until October 10, 2025, with a nominal service fee applicable based on standard rates. Day-of registrations will incur additional fees. Helmets are mandatory throughout the event. Awards and recognition await top performers in each category: age group winners receive medals for their efforts. The race not only showcases athletic prowess but also serves as a significant fundraiser for various local, national, and international charitable causes, ensuring that every effort contributes to making a positive impact on communities worldwide. For those looking to experience the thrill of triathlon without the pressure of competition, there are also open water swim events available at a reduced fee. The event is open to all ages and abilities, encouraging participation from beginners to elite athletes alike. Directions for race day can be found online or by contacting the organizers directly. For those traveling from westbound routes, follow Route 138 East across the Jamestown Bridge, taking the first exit onto Helm Street before proceeding through North Road and Narragansett Avenue towards Fort Getty. From eastbound directions, cross the Newport Bridge and take your first right after passing under the overpass to Hamilton Avenue. Continue on Beavertail until you reach Fort Getty. Whether you're aiming for a personal best or simply enjoying the camaraderie of fellow athletes, The Newport Classic Triathlon promises an experience that combines natural beauty with athletic challenge in one unforgettable event.
