Race day will find runners and walkers converging at Harlinsdale Farm as the sun rises over Franklin. With temperatures typically ranging from a low of 3°C to a high of 13.8°C (feels like 6.2°C), conditions on February 28th are perfect for a brisk morning run or walk. The farm's well-tended grounds, complete with rolling hills and mature trees, provide a serene backdrop that adds to the community spirit already palpable in the air.
This event has been held annually since 2023, honoring Joey Gootee through Jenny Fann’s commitment to raising awareness about addiction recovery. Over three years, it has grown from a small gathering of local runners and their families into one of Franklin's most anticipated events. In its fourth year, the race offers distances for all ages: the half-mile 1 Mile Fun Run for those looking for an easy start or end to the event; the five-kilometer (5K) run that follows the farm’s perimeter road; and the ten-kilometer (10K) route which meanders through more challenging terrain. Participants can expect both firm, slightly soft trails and a few gentle inclines as they complete their chosen distance.
The race begins at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, where participants will start alongside runners from all over Franklin and beyond. From there, the course winds around the farm's perimeter for 5K or 10K distances before returning to the starting point via a different route that includes some firm and slightly soft terrain. Along the way, runners can enjoy views of the rolling hills and mature trees that make up this part of Tennessee’s landscape.
Aid stations will be strategically placed along both routes to ensure runners stay hydrated and fueled throughout their run or walk. Additionally, volunteers from local recovery centers will be present to offer support and encouragement to all participants.
Weather conditions on February 28th are expected to include temperatures between a low of 3°C and a high of 13.8°C with a moderate UV index of 3.0, meaning runners should prepare for partly cloudy skies and the need to wear sunscreen. A light breeze at an average speed of 13 km/h will add a slight chill but won’t detract from the overall experience.
