The 3rd Annual 877th Engineer Battalion 5K or 10K Run or Walk, and GORUCK 10K Ruck (Sponsored by Fontaine Trailer, Haleyville, AL, RealtySouth The Harbin Company, Jasper, AL, and Nelson, Bryan, Boylen, & Cross Law Firm, Jasper AL) will raise money for the 877th Engineer Battalion Family Readiness Group and honor those on 9/11/2001. This event will be open to all Civilian, First Responders, Active-Duty Military, Reservist, National Guard personnel, and Veterans. All proceeds will go to the 877th Engineer Battalion Family Readiness Group(military service members, family, and community). Proceeds help to fund unit family and area events.
The event will consist of a 1 mile Kid's Fun Run or Walk, 5K(3.1 miles) or 10K(6.2 miles) Run or Walk, and 10K GORUCK Ruck along a measured and designated route (Same route as used for the Mark Forester Price of Freedom Race).
The 1 mile Kid's Fun Run will be on the Haleyville High School Track. It will consist of 4 laps. Lap 1 will be a bubble run, Lap 2 will be a pool noodle run, Lap 3 will be a color run (appropriate attire for color packets), Lap 4 will be a candy run (bring bag or bucket to hold candy). There will be free hot dogs for each child participant courtesy of HHC 877th EN BN and Desperation Church.
The 5K and 10K Run or Walk will require participants to run or walk along a measured and designated route. Participants will complete the course in the fastest time possible. All finishers receive a T-shirt.
The GORUCK 10K Ruck will require participants to move together as a group along a measured, designated route, and complete multiple tasks together at predetermined locations along the course (tasks include push-ups, air squats, lunges, etc.). Total distance covered will be 10K. Participants will bring their own Ruck (aka. backpack) with Army standard weight of approximately 35lbs dry weight. Dry weight meaning before food, snacks or hydration weight are added. Rucks will be weighed prior to event start time.
All ruck participants will be required to weigh their rucks no later than 30 minutes prior to their race start time. Cadre will weigh and check rucks starting at 0630. The GORUCK event is Cadre led by the Sua Sponte Ruckers Ruck Club. Total distance covered will be 10K(6.2 miles). All finishers receive a T-shirt and custom 877 EN BN 9/11 Ruck GORUCK Patch.
While this event will be run on a measured course, we are currently looking at options for timers and bibs. Be advised that this event will not be timed, so be prepared to keep own time if trying to achieve a personal goal or time.
In order to receive your T-shirt at the event, all participants must register by 14 August 2026. Registration will close at 0730 on day of event and there may be limited T-shirts available, but you can still register and put your T-shirt sizes in until closing and T-shirts will be available at the Haleyville National Guard Armory for later pick-up.
Children 8 years of age and older can sign up for the ruck with parent/guardian permission. If under 15 years of age, the 35lb weight requirement will be waived. Ruck weight can range from 10 lbs to 20 lbs based on body weight. If over 150lbs (20 lbs), if under 150lbs (10 lbs). Choose a weight that you know your child can handle during the event.
PARKING AVAILBLE ON SITE: There will be free parking located at the Haleyville High School, Middle School, and Elementary School.
Let your family and friends know all support and participation is welcome. We are looking to have vendors this year such as, food and drink trucks/tents, snow cones, teas and shakes, lemonade, tamales, street corn, etc. All are local vendors to the Haleyville area. All located in the High School Football Field parking lot. National Guard Recruiters will be on site with activities to include, but not limited to, a rock climbing wall, dunk tank, inflatables, and much more. We look forward to growing and creating a partnership with the community.

Haleyville was originally named "Davis Cross Roads", having been established at the crossroads of Byler Road and the Illinois Central Railroad.
