32nd Iheya Moonlight Marathon (第32回 伊平屋ムーンライトマラソン)

A 24 km evening marathon on Iheya Island in Okinawa, run on an almost entirely flat coastal road. The start is in daylight with farmland and shoreline views, then the sun sets over the island's west coast, and after dark runners head for the finish by the light of the full moon rising over the east coast and the penlights they carry. The organizers say this makes it easy for beginners who struggle in the heat and for women concerned about the sun, and that nearly 40 percent of the field is women.
Its slogan is Stars Cheering, Moon Running Beside You, and the village welcomes runners warmly. Pre-event and post-event parties serve Iheya soba, beef soup and cocktails made with the local awamori Terushima, with a live show by guests from off the island planned. Visitors can stay in accommodation or village homestays.
Participants who attend the October 23 pre-event party enter a lottery for JTA round-trip air tickets for two: Naha to Ishigaki, Naha to Miyako and Naha to Kumejima.
