25th Annual Covington Cheerios® Challenge

The 25th Annual Covington Cheerios® Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Covington Family YMCA in Covington, GA. Celebrating a quarter-century of community fitness, this landmark event serves as the primary fundraiser for the YMCA’s "WHY IT MATTERS" Annual Campaign. Covington is a historic city in Newton County, often called the "Hollywood of the South" due to its frequent use as a filming location, and has a population of approximately 14,000. The demographics of the area are approximately 52% Black, 41% White, and 4% Hispanic or Latino. Funds raised from the race ensure that local children and families can access vital Y programs, including youth sports, swim lessons, and summer camps, regardless of their financial situation.

Event Experience and Festival

The race begins and ends at the Covington Family YMCA on Newton Drive Northeast. Following the athletic competitions, participants can enjoy a vibrant post-race festival that emphasizes the "Cheerios" theme with appearances by the Trix Rabbit and the Cheerios® Honey Bee. The festival includes live music, free food for participants, local vendor booths, and various activities specifically designed for kids. Awards are presented not only for overall winners but also for specific age groups in the 1-mile, 5K, and 10K categories, making it a competitive yet highly inclusive environment for all ability levels.

Registration and Specialized Tiers

Registration fees are all-inclusive of mandatory charges and currently sit at a base rate of $34.09 for the 5K and 10K events until April 10, after which the price increases to $39.44. To encourage community participation, a Family 4-Pack Discount is available for $82.23 ($75 base), allowing families to choose their preferred distances at a reduced rate. For those who want to support the YMCA's mission without running, the "Phantom Runner" option ($23.49) provides an official race t-shirt. The Trix Tot-Trot is available for the youngest athletes at a nominal fee of $7.34.
