2026 Walk,Run,Read for Literacy! Sept. 19th in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, United States - Kick off your fall event calendar with a fun-filled morning for the whole family, all in support of The Literacy Project of North Idaho. This volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit has been dedicated to helping adults in our community improve their literacy and English language skills since its inception. A vibrant gathering is planned this year, making it the fifth annual event.
On race day, Coeur d'Alene City Park/Fort Sherman Park will come alive with a sense of community spirit as runners and spectators gather amidst the golden hues of late summer foliage. The morning air carries the crispness typical for early September, perfect for an outdoor run through the picturesque landscape that surrounds the park.
This event has a rich history rooted in tradition and purpose. Every year, hundreds of participants come together to support literacy causes, with this year's event aiming to engage over 500 runners and walkers. The race benefits directly from the community’s generosity as all proceeds go towards supporting learners and programs that promote reading skills.
The course terrain offers a mix of firm and slightly soft trail conditions, ideal for a five-kilometer run along the Idaho Centennial Trail toward Post Falls. Runners will enjoy scenic views before turning around just before the Highway 95 bridge, with water stations strategically placed to ensure hydration throughout the route. The Kids Dash takes place within Coeur d'Alene City Park on a fun and safe loop course tailored for young runners up to 12 years old.
Weather conditions in September typically average at 18.8°C, with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 12.9°C to a maximum of 24.7°C. The day will feel comfortable with moderate UV exposure, making it perfect for outdoor activities. Runners should prepare by bringing light clothing and sunscreen.
