2026 Third China Shataohong Mountain Trail Challenge Race (2026第三届中国·十八洞山地越野挑战赛)

On November 1, 2026, the Third China Shadong Mountain Trail Challenge will take place at noon on Sunday in Shuanglong Town, Huayuan County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province. The event features two race categories: a challenging 53KM course and a more accessible 23KM route. Each participant will embark from the Shadong Visitor Center.
The longer 53KM trail is designed for experienced runners with its grueling ascent of 2918 meters, descent of 3408 meters, and an elevation peak reaching 903 meters. The race starts at 7:30 AM on November 1st and concludes by 7:30 PM the same day. It offers a comprehensive exploration of rugged terrain including steep climbs, scenic vistas, and dense forests.
The shorter 23KM route is equally captivating with its ascent of 1530 meters and descent of 1012 meters, culminating in a high point at 903 meters above sea level. The race begins simultaneously with the longer course but finishes earlier by 1:30 PM that afternoon near the Ancient Miaohu Visitor Center.
Both courses traverse through areas richly imbued with historical and cultural significance, including Shadong Village, where China's targeted poverty alleviation initiatives were first proposed. This makes for a unique blend of physical challenge and social awareness as runners navigate trails marked by profound changes in rural life over recent years.
The race area has been expanded to include new sections like the Miaohu Ancient River scenic zone, adding fresh terrain variations such as deep gorges and lush mountain forests.
