2026 Seongnam Heritage Run

On December 12, 2026, runners will gather at Tancheon Sports Complex in Seongnam-si to honor Sohn Kee-chung's historic victory in the marathon during the Berlin Olympics of 1936. This event celebrates his legacy and spirit of perseverance with a vibrant morning atmosphere starting from 8:30 AM. Participants can choose between two distances, a challenging 10km course or a more accessible 5km route, each offering unique insights into this historic setting.
The race begins at Tancheon Sports Complex, where the air is filled with anticipation and respect for Sohn Kee-chung’s achievements. The 10km runners will face varied terrain that includes stretches along scenic roads lined with trees and parks, providing a mix of flat sections and gentle inclines to test their endurance. Meanwhile, the 5km route offers a more relaxed but equally rewarding experience, winding through familiar cityscapes.
Registration for this event opens on October 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM KST, with entries available until full capacity is reached. Runners who register by November 6 will have the option to request a refund if needed; however, no changes or cancellations are accepted after that date.
All participants receive timing chips for accurate tracking and results based on net time, while official awards are determined by gun time. Upon completing either distance, runners can look forward to crossing the finish line with cheers from spectators and receiving a commemorative medal alongside refreshments.
This event is not just about running; it's an opportunity to connect with history and celebrate the enduring legacy of Sohn Kee-chung in contemporary South Korea.
