2026 Race the Landing 5K New Years Day Pajama Run -Recycle, Reuse and Renew

About the Event

Race the Landing 5K New Year's Day Pajama Run - Recycle, Reuse and Renew in Charleston, South Carolina, United States on January 1, 2026.
On race day, you'll experience a unique setting along the historic waterfront of Charles Towne Landing. The race starts early at 9:00 AM under the cool morning light with temperatures around 8°C, creating an invigorating atmosphere for runners to start their new year right. The landscape is dominated by marsh views and majestic oak trees that line the route, offering a picturesque yet unpretentious backdrop.
This event has been a Charleston tradition since its inception in 2019, celebrating not just running but also community spirit and environmental consciousness. This year's race will see over 300 participants, with awards for top finishers across five-year age groups down to the youngest runners. The event aims to give back by encouraging recycling of both race shirts and awards from various races.
The course itself is a firm and slightly soft terrain with minimal elevation changes, making it suitable for all skill levels while offering scenic views throughout. Runners will start at Charles Towne Landing's main entrance on Old Towne Road and finish near the same location after completing either a 5K or a Kid’s fun run of 1 mile. There are two aid stations strategically placed along the route, ensuring runners stay hydrated.
Aid stations include water stops every half-mile with additional electrolyte drinks available for those needing extra support. The race also features a special feature—post-race soup and cornbread! Both Hoppin John and vegetable soups will be served to all participants as they celebrate their achievements post-run. Weather predictions indicate mild conditions, though runners should prepare for temperatures ranging from 5°C to 14°C with light winds.

About Charleston

Learn more about the host city, Charleston.

Scenic view of

Charleston is the largest and oldest city in the state of South Carolina in the United States of America. Its historic downtown is on a peninsula formed by two rivers, the Ashley and the Cooper, flowing into the Atlantic, and protected from the open ocean by surrounding islands. Charleston was captured in the American Civil War without much property damage, so the historic part of town has buildings that are hundreds of years old. The current downtown skyline, with practically no tall buildings due to the city's height restriction ordinance, is dominated by church steeples and the stunning Arthur Ravenel cable-stay bridge over the Cooper River. The city is a major port on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. and a popular destination for domestic and international tourists.
