2026 Race for Campus Safety - Pullman, Washington

About the Event

On the morning of October 17, 2026, the sun will rise over Pullman, shining a warm light on runners preparing to participate in the 5K road race. The city is nestled at an elevation that brings brisk air and golden hues of autumn leaves, painting the landscape with vibrant colors against the backdrop of rolling hills. As participants gather, there's palpable energy from fellow community members who are here for more than just a run; they're united in their support for creating safer campuses.
The Race for Campus Safety has a rich history rooted in honoring Lauren McCluskey’s memory and promoting awareness about campus safety. In 2025, over 1,000 participants joined together to make a difference through this event, which not only offers physical challenges but also fosters unity among the community members. This year promises to be just as significant, with a variety of distances available for all runners.
On race day, the course will wind its way across Pullman’s picturesque surroundings, featuring firm and slightly soft terrain that provides an engaging challenge. The surface is primarily paved, making it suitable even for those running at their leisurely pace or pushing themselves to new limits without worrying about rugged conditions. The route includes a mix of gentle slopes and flat stretches, ensuring runners can enjoy the scenery while maintaining focus on the race.
The 5K run starts from 2000 Ott Rd, where participants will find not only registration booths but also a starting line that is well-marked for ease of navigation. As runners complete their course, they'll pass through various elevation changes and encounter several aid stations strategically placed to ensure hydration and nutrition are always within reach. The route features special points of interest such as the campus landmarks and local businesses, adding an extra layer of community engagement.
Weather on October 17th is expected to be mild with temperatures ranging from a minimum of 5.8°C to a maximum of 15.1°C, with an average temperature around 10.5°C. Runners should prepare for conditions that can feel slightly cooler due to the high humidity levels at 62%. With an average wind speed of 11.3 km/h and UV index indicating low exposure risk (at 2.8), runners will find it a comfortable day to lace up their shoes and hit the trails.
