The 2026 Alamo Beer Series Challenge Race 2 of 4: Battle of Salado Creek returns to San Antonio, Texas on September 12th.
This race spans a variety of distances through the historic streets and parks of downtown San Antonio. The event offers participants a choice between a half marathon (13.1 miles), 10-mile run, 5-mile run, or a 5K fun run for all ages. Each distance has its own unique challenges and rewards. Race enthusiasts can also participate in the virtual options which are available for those who prefer to run from home.
Race morning finds runners gathering at HemisFair Park, surrounded by vibrant murals and green spaces that provide an ideal setting. With a start time of 5:30pm sharp, participants will enjoy cooler temperatures as they begin their journey through the city’s historic neighborhoods. The atmosphere is lively with music and pre-race activities before the race officially kicks off.
The Battle of Salado Creek has been running for several years now, making it one of San Antonio's most beloved events. In its 10th year in 2026, this race not only challenges participants but also supports local charities through fundraising efforts. Over a thousand runners participate each year, raising thousands of dollars to benefit community organizations.
The course is set along Salado Creek Trail and surrounding streets, providing scenic views as well as some elevation changes. The half marathon and 10-mile routes offer several notable features such as the iconic HemisFair Park at the start line before winding through dense urban neighborhoods. The 5-mile run follows a similar route but with fewer turns, while the 5K is primarily within the park itself.
Starting times are staggered to accommodate all runners: half marathon and 10-mile participants begin at 5:30pm; 5-milers start an hour later at 6:30pm. A dedicated 5k walk starts simultaneously with the 5k run, ensuring that every participant can find their perfect pace.
