The Zele Biatlon, organized by the dedicated Roparunteam 182 De Kloddelopers, invites runners and shooters to come together for an engaging blend of sport and community spirit. This unique event is designed to be accessible to all participants while raising funds for local cancer charities. Participants in this biathlon will start with a running circuit that stretches approximately 2.2 kilometers. The course leads them directly into the shooting range where they’ll engage in optical target practice, ensuring safety at all times as it’s akin to laser shooting. For those opting for the shorter distance of about five kilometers, runners complete two laps and encounter the shooting station twice. Those who choose the longer 10-kilometer route will make four circuits around the track, facing the shooting range on each lap. At every visit to the shooting area, competitors aim at five targets. Missing a target means taking an additional penalty loop of roughly 180 meters in length. However, if all shots are successfully hit, runners can proceed immediately to their next round without any extra distance added to their total time. The event offers two distances: a shorter option covering about 5 kilometers and a longer one extending over 10 kilometers. Participants must be at least 14 years old for the full race; younger children up to age 14 are welcome in the short-distance category only. The competition also welcomes teams from various backgrounds, such as businesses or sports clubs, by allowing them to register collectively and start together. Fun elements like "For Two" pairings where one person runs while another handles shooting duties add an interactive twist to the event. Entry fees for these distances are €12 for 5 kilometers and €15 for 10 kilometers, plus a nominal administrative fee of €1 per registration. The biathlon takes place at the chirolokalen behind Huivelde Church in Zele (Huivelde 211C, 9240), providing an ideal setting with ample space for both running and shooting activities. Whether you're new to competitive sports or a seasoned athlete looking for a unique challenge, this biathlon offers something special for everyone involved. The event promises not only physical activity but also camaraderie among participants as they support each other through the combined challenges of running and precision shooting.
