The 18th edition of the "Red Bull 24 Hours" Kunming Jiaozishan Mountain Crossing Challenge is set to take place on October 18, 2026, at the scenic Jiaozishan Scenic Area in Luquan County, Yunnan Province. The event features two challenging routes: a 27km "Through-the-Clouds" course and a more accessible 14km "Mountain View" route.
The 27km Through-the-Clouds Course is designed for experienced runners with strong endurance and technical skills. Starting from the Jiaozishan Scenic Area's Four Directions Park, participants will ascend to an altitude of up to 4223 meters before descending back down to the starting point. This rigorous course includes a significant ascent of 1796m and descent of 1796m over rugged terrain that features dense cold pine forests, alpine meadows, high-altitude mountain ridges covered in loose rocks, and scenic wooden pathways leading up to the summit.
The 14km Mountain View Course offers stunning panoramic views while still providing a significant challenge. Starting at Four Directions Park, runners will climb through lush greenery and rocky paths before reaching the peak of Jiaozishan. This route ascends 1415 meters with a descent of only 343 meters, offering breathtaking vistas along its challenging ascent.
Both courses are steeped in natural beauty; participants can expect to traverse golden pine forests, alpine meadows, and rocky mountain trails that wind through the heart of Jiaozishan. The peak offers panoramic views over rolling hills and valleys blanketed with autumn hues, creating a truly awe-inspiring backdrop for runners.
Jiaozishan, standing at 4223 meters above sea level, is the highest summit in Kunming's Luquan County within the Wumeng Mountains range.
