The Run A Way Dryland, sanctioned by AAHDS (Alberta All Terrain Hauling Dog Society), invites mushers of all skill levels to join the excitement on October 9-11, 2026. This multi-day event features a variety of classes designed for both competitive and developmental participants. The standard course spans 4.8 kilometers, while the sprint version is just 2.7 kilometers long. Participants can choose from several class options including Competitive Class with various rig configurations (from one to four dogs), scooter and bike events, as well as canicross races. Developmental classes are available for those who prefer a non-competitive environment or need more practice before stepping into the competitive arena. Registration opens on September 1, 2026, and closes at midnight on October 7, 2026. The event takes place near De Winton, Alberta (T0L 0X0), on Range Road 12. Camping is available at a nominal fee of $25 per night for dry camping spots from Friday to Saturday nights only. Please note that parking and campsite maps will be provided once entries close. Competitive classes are scheduled primarily over the weekend, with mandatory drivers meetings in the morning followed by races starting around midday. Developmental classes run on Friday and Saturday mornings, offering a more relaxed environment for new participants or those seeking additional practice before the competitive events begin. The event includes breaks approximately halfway through each day's competition to allow athletes and their dogs some rest time. On Sunday afternoon, all competitors are invited to participate in cleanup efforts followed by an awards ceremony where every participant receives recognition on the prize table. Safety is a top priority; helmets are mandatory for all classes except canicross. Dogs must be kept on leashes or harnesses at all times when not actively racing. Spectators and volunteers are welcome, but pets should remain home to respect local wildlife and property boundaries.
