About the event

El Cruce Women 2027: A Triumphant Journey from Cancun to Isla Mujeres
Set against the backdrop of Mexico's breathtaking Caribbean coast, El Cruce Women 2027 invites women athletes to embark on a unique and challenging open water swim. The event takes place in two parts—Cancún and its neighboring island, Isla Mujeres—and offers an unforgettable experience for those who are ready to push their limits.
### Location & Dates
The race begins at Playa Caracol in Cancun on Sunday, March 7, with participants swimming a distance of approximately 10 kilometers. This route takes swimmers from the vibrant shores of Cancún across the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea to reach Isla Mujeres, an idyllic island known for its serene beaches and lush greenery.
### Capacity & Registration
With only 300 spots available, this exclusive event guarantees a personalized experience for every participant. Registration opens on July 26, 2026, at noon (CDMX time), ensuring early bird swimmers the opportunity to secure their place in what promises to be an exhilarating day.
### Participant Requirements
To ensure safety and maintain high standards of performance, participants must meet one of four eligibility criteria:
- Completion of a previous El Cruce Cancún swim within the last five years.
- Finishing an Iron Swim (3.8 km) at El Cruce without fins in recent events.
- Submitting proof of completing two 5km swims or one 10km swim globally, both within the past two years.
- Obtaining a coach's endorsement via a signed document.
Participants are strongly encouraged to undergo cardiac evaluations and laboratory tests before registering. These include an electrocardiogram (ECG), stress test, echocardiogram, complete blood count, blood chemistry and lipid profile, plasma electrolytes, spirometry if necessary, and other relevant medical checks.
### Race Format & Safety Measures
The race is a point-to-point swim from Cancun to Isla Mujeres. Swimmers will be supported by over 50 non-motorized boats (kayaks and paddleboards) as well as more than 25 motorized vessels providing safety, security, and basic supplies throughout the route. The Mexican Navy's Fifth Region, Federal Park authorities, and Civil Protection teams also ensure a safe passage through protected waters.
### What’s Included in Your Registration
Upon registration, participants receive an electronic timing chip for accurate race tracking. Other perks include:
- Official commemorative cap.
- ComfortDry t-shirt with UV protection and antibacterial properties.
- Swim distance wristband.
- Finisher medal upon completion of the event.
- Pre-race warm-up session and mindful breathing activity.
- Assisted stretching area at the start line.
- Baggage check service, including transportation to Isla Mujeres.
- Hydration stations along the route and finish line amenities.
- Access to ecopark facilities on Isla Mujeres for post-event relaxation.
### Race Day Logistics
Packets must be picked up in person from Mandal Beach Club between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM on Saturday, March 5. No third-party deliveries are allowed; however, late arrivals can arrange packet pick-up at Playa Caracol parking lot starting at 6:00 AM on race day by contacting [email protected].
### Awards & Recognition
While El Cruce Women is primarily a personal challenge event, top finishers will receive special recognition. The overall winner in each age category and the first three women over 70 years old will be awarded prizes. A prestigious “Queen of the Sea” trophy goes to the fastest female competitor, while coaches or teams with the highest number of participants earn special honors.
### Important Notes
Late registrations are not accepted. All changes to participant details must be made by February 21, 2027; after this date, no modifications can be accommodated. For more detailed information and updates on race rules and regulations, visit www.elcruce.mx or contact the event organizers directly.
